Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE North Western Traffic Commissioners,

being familiar with the roads and the weekend congestion on the North Wales coast road during the holiday season, had decided that what grants they made, if any, in respect of further through facilities to Butlin's Holiday Camp at Pwllheli would not be via the coast road, but by way of Rubin and Cerrig-y-Druidion.

This was said by the chairman, Mr. C. R. Hodgson, during the resumed hearing at Manchester on Monday and Tuesday of further applications by various operators to provide additional facilities on Saturdays (COMMERCIAL MOTOR, January 21). The hearing was again adjourned.

Crosville Motor Services Ltd. sought a new express service between St. Helens and the Camp on Saturdays only from May to September.

Following the withdrawal of the through rail services to the Camp, Crosville, it was said, had made inquiries in respect of the St. Helens and Prescot area with the idea of submitting an application; but this had been hastened by the applications from other operators. Crosville could not be faced with any loss of passengers.

North Western Road Car Co. Ltd. sought to increase the number of vehicles on the Manchester-Camp service from five to seven, the Stockport-Camp service from one to two and the Bradford-Camp service, operated jointly with Yorkshire Woollen Transport Co. Ltd., from one to two. The assistant traffic manager of North Western, Mr. W. Woolley (also representing Yorkshire Woollen) spoke of a demand they could not fulfil and of refusing 300 passengers last season.

A decision was reserved.

The Commissioners also reserved their decision on the applications of W. S. Ellison Ltd. and Garvin Murray Ltd. for period returns to the Camp on excursions and tours licences starting from St. Helens. Decisions were reserved, too, on applications by F. D. Dean Ltd. and A. Mayne and Sons Ltd., starting from Newton Heath.

When the hearing is completed, applications from 18 operators will have been heard.
