TN a 99-page report, a Road Haulage Association study group has made some of the most I_ radical proposals for its constitutional alteration ever to appear. The proposals arise from a resolution which was passed at the Association's annual conference at Brighton in 1963.
One of the proposals is that the RHA appoint a paid chairman of eminence in public life.
The report was presented to the national council last week. This body decided that the report should be referred to the areas, sub-areas and functional groups for their consideration. The proposals will then be the subject of a referendum.
The major proposals are as follows:—
To actively encourage formation of co-operative units to enable RHA members to exchange traffic, buy supplies in bulk and operate joint repair facilities.
To extend service to members in respect of credit facilities, discount purchasing, emergency repair service, legal aid (including a national licensing scheme), overnight accommodation for vehicles and drivers, and insurance facilities.
To set up a governing body of 47 members, to be known as the national executive council, and form eight national standing committees.
To carry out administrative and financial reforms to secure greater unity and efficiency in the Association.
