Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TWO safety codes, one dealing with the operation of industrial trucks and the other with the handling of petroleum, have just been published. The former which is published by the Industrial Truck Manufacturers' Association, 94-98 Petty France, London, S.W.1, price 2s. 6d., first deals at some length with the design features of the , various types of truck.

Operators, however, will be particularly interested in the suggested safety rules and regulations, particularly those concerned with fork-lift trucks. Attention is called to the danger of leaving the forks in any position but fully lowered and to driving downhill with the load in front of the driver. In the latter circumstance, the load should be behind the driver and when going uphill, in front of the driver.

A-careless driver, the code points out, could suffer injury by being caught up in the elevating mechanism of the ferk, or possibly cause the truck and its load to capsize by not giving his full attention to the tilting control.

Another useful section of the code is that in which a short, illustrated description is given of all the known types of truck, together with ancillary equipment.

The code dealing with safe practice in the petroleum industry is published by The Institute of Petroleum, 26 Portland Place, London, W.I, and sells for 26s., or in loose leaf form at 12s. 6d, Although mainly concerned with bulk handling and storage, it also covers such subjects as tank cleaning, fire precautions, the correct procedure to follow when loading and unloading tankers and the maintenance of pipelines and fittings.
