Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Icommend Jeremy Taylor for "his" idea of setting up a driver training centre for his company, CDS Employment, in the hope of solely servicing the needs of Crawley, which has more vacancies than bodies (CM 20-26 November).

However, I would like to point out that there is a multi-national company based in the South East (with a branch in Crawley) which already has its own driver training centre, located in Egham, which is open all Year round, day and night. It is Manpower Plc.

Manpower places the emphasis firmly on the quality of its drivers and the majority of its contracts are repeat or long-term con. tracts, with clients often requesting specific Manpower individuals when a need for a driver arises.

Mr Taylor stresses that his clients often offer full-time positions to his drivers which then creates a need for more temporary staff. Manpower drivers work for Manpower and are not merely "on the books." As such, its drivers are in a better position to offer the client a professional service.

Should Mr Taylor dream up the idea of having a 24hour vacancy hotline, might I also point out that Manpower already has one. Whenever Manpower branches are closed, calls are patched through to a manned "Nightline" centre which can obtain a Manpower driver for clients immediately.

CDS Employment still has a great deal of market research to do before it can become Crawley's employment-reducing crusaders. Dominic Fulcher, Wes/ Sussex.
