Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE Fruehauf Corporation of America is seriously considering whether to produce its own axles, according to the president of the company, Mr. William E. Grace. If the decision to go ahead with the plan is taken, nearly $3-5m. will be spent on machines and tooling at the Delphos, Ohio, plant.

The new axle would be rated at 24,000 lb. compared with the 20,000-lb. unit now in use. In addition there would be a saving in weight of 15 per cent, mainly through choice of materials. Purely in the trailer field, the company now uses nearly 75,000 axles a year, which are manufactured by the RockwellStandard Corp. Mr. Grace went on to say that like most trailer makers the company had been an as.sembier rather than a manufacturer in the past, but was now making most of its own components, and shortly was even to produce its own rivets.
