Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A NEW book written by D. I. Hartley!". Smith." Diesel Engine Maintenance ", was published by Iliffe Books Ltd. on December 3, It is intended as a practical handbook for the service engineer engaged in the maintenance and overhaul of automotive diesels, and contains information regarding the layout and supervision of repair and testing shops.

Each of the types of equipment in general use in the industry—of which there are comparatively few—is dealt with in considerable detail, and, as a chapter is devoted to each manufacturer, a complete servicing guide is readily available.

The first chapter describes main features and functions of the various types of diesel engine, and the second typical injector faults and methods of testing and cleaning injectors. -Twelve chapters are then devoted to the overhaul of specific types of equipment, including pumps, injectors and governor gear. Further chapters cover servicing equipment, methods of fuel system testing and the functions of the lift pump and filters.

Final chapters deal with the layout of a diesel repair shop, showing specimen lay-outs, description of specialized proprietary test equipment and the final testing of engines after service. This section includes a number of test schemes.

Thoroughly up to date, with plenty of illustrations and tables, this should prove a valuable book for the diesel engineer.
