SPEAKING on road expenditure, the president of the Federation of British Industries, Sir Harry Pilkington, said at Cardiff, on Monday, that the subject gave rise to a particular difficulty. Whilst the F.B.I. were urging the need for a reduction in overall Government spending, they were simultaneously advocating an increase in road grants.
The whole question, he said, had been referred to. an emergency committee of the National Production Advisory Council on Industry (which met on Tuesday) and the matter was being treated as one of first importance.
