TRAVEL FOR CHILDREN TIGHTENED UP.

AT Hanley, last week, the West Midland Traffic Commissioners granted an application by the Potteries Motor Traction Co., Ltd., and the Associated Bus Companies that, in future, only one child should be allowed to travel free with each adult, the age limit to be five years.

The application was opposed by Stoke-on-Trent Corporation.

Provided that the operators in the East Midland Area changed over in January to the three-year age limit, there would have to be an inquiry into the matter on similar lines in the West Midland Area.

On Sunday, London Transport will replace trams by trolleybuses on the 11i-mile route from Craven Park to Hammersmith, via Acton, Hanwell, Brentford and Chiswick.

All Glasgow's municipal bus traffic was stopped last week-end, when some 1,400 workers suddenly took strike action. The dispute was settled within about 24 hours.

GLASGOW'S £140,000 BUS CONTRACT

A RECOMMENDATION to purchase I-1 100 oil-engined buses was made, last week, by a sub-committee of Glasgow Transport Committee. The contract is estimated at £140,000. The purpose is to prepare for the extra demands on the transport department expected for the duration of the Empire Exhibition in 1938.

It ,is hoped to run a one-minute service 'to and from the exhibition by bus and tramcar.
