III Two Spanish truck drivers pleaded guilty to working for 14 days without a day off after being pulled over in a stop-andsearch blitz on trucks in Oxfordshire.

The multi-agency check at the Marcham Road interchange on the A34 at Abingdon, netted 27 vehicles on Tuesday 26 July. Three drivers were taken to court later that day.

An Irish driver was fined ..£40 for having an axle overloaded by three tonnes. The two Spanish drivers were fitted a total of £422 after pleading guilty to working for 14 days without a day off. Eleven verbal cautions were given for mechanical defects.

Only two British drivers were stopped and the RSPCA is to prosecute one of them for failing to take adequate care of his cargo of pigs.
