Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Truck rental companies this week begin to take delivery of M-reg trucks worth around .£23m in order to keep pace with a "strong" rise in demand from operators.

The upsurge in demand reported by BRS, Ryder and Transfleet. adds weight to other economic indicators, such as improved commercial vehicle sales, signalling improvements in business for operators.

BRS's .€22m, 730-vehicle investment includes 550 vehicles over 7.5 tonnes. It comes as the NFC-owned company predicts a "strong" rise in shortterm rental demand in the next few months.

Gavin Williams, BRS's rental manager for the South says: "We think we'll be at volumes expected next April by the end of this year."

Ryder has added 300 commercial vehicles to its truck rental fleet this Monday (1 August), boosting it to 2,500 units—the most it has had for five years. The Lim order is for vehicles from 2.5 to 17 tonnes.

Meanwhile, Lex Serviceowned Transfleet, which has about 20% of its 7,900 commercial vehicles over 3.5 tonnes on short-term rental, says it is "steadily" expanding its investment programme.

In financial results released last week, Lex says Transfleet doubled its profit for the first six months of 1994 compared with the same period last year.
