Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Leyland Daf has denied reports that it is planning to drop the Interstate high-roof sleeper cab option from its Roadtrain tractive unit range.

Although the Interstate cab — offered on the twin-steer 20.32 and 20.35, and two-axle 17.32 and 17.35 Roadtrain — is matched by Space Cab 95 Series models, the company insists that the Interstate will continue to be available.

According to Leyland Daf there is a strong demand for high sleeper cabbed tractive units and, while stressing that all its truck models are "constantly under review", it maintains that there is no clash between the Interstate Roadtrain and the 95 Series Space Cab, and that it is not losing money by offering the Interstate option.

Launched in October 1986 at the Birmingham Motor Show, the Interstate high-roof is made from a moulded GRP sandwich and gives 600mm more headroom than a normal height Roadtrain sleeper cab.

Leyland Daf is now offering the option of a speciallylowered cab on all its 95 Series tractive units and drawbar rigids. By lowering the cabmounting brackets, and replacing the standard 95 Series cab roof panel with a revised flat profile panel, the cab height can be reduced by 180mm. The modification is available on both day and sleeper cabs and is produced at the company's Colchester SVO centre. Price for lowering the cabmounting brackets is £670 ex/ V kg' while the revised roof panel costs £2,300 ex-VAT.

The conversion is designed specifically for car transporter operators who are looking for sufficient clearance between the cab roof and the trailer front overhang.

Among the first operators to take delivery of a low cab 95 model is Essex-based Silcock Express (See page 11). Ll The Eaton Twin Splitter gearbox will soon be fitted as an on-line option on the Roadtrain alongside the existing Spicer gearbox. Until now the Eaton Twin Splitter has only been available on the Roadtrain as an SVO, but the company says that increasing customer demand has now made it possible to fit it on-line.
