AN accompanying picture shows one .... of two A.E.C.-built ACLO Regal single-deck buses owned and operated by 0.N.D.A.—Organizacion Nacional I le Autohuses, S.A., Uruguay. Several more, vehicles of this type are on order with the Associated Equipment Co., Ltd., for delivery after the war.

The chassis serving as the basis of these vehicles is a 20-ft.-wheelbase model, powered by the A.E.C. 8.8-litre direct-injection oil engine, and it is mounted on ,10.00-in. by 22-in.

British and American buses form a large part of the 0.N.D.A. fleet, which covers a monthly total of approximately 310,000 mires on 10 routes. There are daily services to the interior of the. Uruguayan Republic, and special holiday services during sumrneetime, with certain express services and excursion tours throughout the year

The 0.N.D.A. system of bus operation is worked on a co-operative basis. which means that fares are collected by the conductors of the individual buses and the proceeds are handed in

at 'the central office. At the end of each month-, after administrative and other expenses have been deducted

from revenue, an average return per kilometre is established, and the owners receive their share according to the mileage performed by their particular bus, or buses. The quota of returns to the different owners varies Slightly in percentages. being governed by seating capacity, of which three distinct Categories have been fixed.

Returns are computed at the end of every month, by deducting the following items from the gross receipts:— Cost of administration, personnel, oil fuel or petrol, and certain other sundry expenses 'disbursed during the month by the individual owners. The cost of tyres, general repairs and body maintenance, however, is for t1a account of the individual owners and must be met . out of the monthly returns they receive.

The 0.N.DA. capital stands at 200,000 dollars, and has been hubscribed by the various owners, in order to meet expenses of installation, etc.
