Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

. contract hire vehicle which is not displaying a road .fund licence because, although the vehicle has been taxed, it has not been received from the hiring company's head office. is it in order to drive that vehicle on a road with an explanatory note displayed?

A In Section 12 of the Vehicles (Excise) Act 1971 provides that any mechanically propelled vehicle on which duty is chargeable which is kept or used on a road shall display a licence. Regulation 16 of the Road Vehicles (Registration and Licensing) Regulations 1971 describes how that licence must be displayed.

There is no exemption from the 'display of a road fund licence in circumstances similar to those you describe and a fine not exceeding £20 is involved for an offence under Section 12 of the 1971 Act.

An explanatory note has no significance.
