AN undertaking that the British Transport Commission would not undercut the independent haulier, so long as his rates were reasonable, was given by Mr. G. R. Strauss, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry Of Transport, in the House of Commons 'last week.

He said that there would be no con.trol of the rates charged by hauliers operating outside the Commission, and that the Commission would be guilty of. a dereliction of duty. if it 'made iinpossible the work of the short-distance haulier.
