Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The farming community, who are not quick to adopt new methods, are without a doubt seriously considering the question of mechanical haulage as distinct from land cultivation. 'The farmer, however, is not quite in the same position as ordinary motor vehicle users who are usually engaged in transporting one, class. of goods only,. The farmer's horsedrawn vehicles are usually employed for a multitude of tasks, and it is up to the ' motor vehicle body builders to provide. him with a taw of vehicle which can do all that the horse-drawn vehicle can do.

We illustrate on this page a body fitted on a Ford ton chassis which the Commercial Motor Body Co., of Pechell Street, Ashton, Preston, have recently put on the market, and which is an ideal type for the average farmer. As illustrated, it can be used for two distinct purposes—one for the conveyance of cattle, its which case a strong double tailboard when dropped forms a ramp, up which the cattle can be led; and two, for the conveyance of garden produce, in which case it is divested of the tailboard extension.

The sides and tailboards are also detachable, so that the vehicle can also be used as a platform lorry.

It. is stated that over 1,003 cars, vans and lorries were despatched from the Ford Trafford Park factory, Manchester, during a recent week
