Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The United Kingdom's 32-ton limit is restricting transport efficiency, and before we can get this changed our industry will just have to make the public aware of the case for heavier trucks.

Peter Foden (CM last week) said as much at ERF's annual meeting. But Mr Foden was preaching to the converted. What we need is a public relations campaign .on behalf of the truck industry — aimed at the general public. Commercial Motor and its readers know the advantage of a weight increase, so what we all have to do is to consider how to get the point over to the men and women in the street, whose only knowledge of trucks comes from the anti-juggernaut brigade in the dailies. In recent years only York's "If you've got it, a truck brought it" campaign has tried to improve the situation.

The transport industry must promote its own image. On the public relations front it has too often shown the competent care of a left-handed gorilla in a needlework factory. The matter is open for comment.
