Despite a plethora of offers from lonely lorry drivers bound for
• exotic places, Helen Lowe decided that it would be as well if she accepted the offer from Joyce Weelings to ,accompany her on a Continental 'trip. Helen, who is the daughter of former colleague David Lowe who now runs David Lowe and Associates consultancy firm, wanted to broaden her experience to help with her job in -David's organisation.
With the agreement of Roy Lowe (no relation) who runs Lowe's Transport of Rowley Regis, Helen and Joyce took a Magirus tractive unit and TIR tilt trailer loaded with aluminium to Roermond on the
Dutch-German border, 3r Dusseldorf and returned w h chemicals for Lincolnshire.
Helen tells me that the only trouble on the journey occurred only shortly after leaving the consignor's premises. A shattered windscreen on the M6 near Corley delayed thern.for a while, otherwise the trip was uneventful One would have expected a good driving performance from Joyce. She was the runner-up in a ladies' lorry driver competition last year.
