Mr. J. S. Darwen, who exhibited the Frayer-Miller—An American air-cooled chassis—at the Olympia Show in March last, is now associated with Dr. Lehwess, at Whitehall Iiouse, S. W.

The Semperit pneumatic tire, handled by the Polack Tyre Company, is found extremely .useful for London work on light vans. I recently saw some letters from different users, amongst whom were the Amalgamated Press, testifying, in excellent terms, to this tire after Some thousands of miles on the road.

On a recent holiday tour down into the south-west corner of England, the writer and some friends made a point, on the way out, of going round by Cheddar, in Somerset, to see the famous cave S: and the Cheddar Gorge. I was interested to find there a Gardner-Serpollet char-a-bancs, which I understood made almost daily trips from Westonsuper-Mare. I had some talk with the proprietor, a Mr. George Young, and I understood he was just taking delivery of a new Darracq-Serpollet. He spoke

in a very satisfied tone about motor chars-a-bancs, as they were able to make very attractive journeys, in some instances just on seventy miles, and to he " back in time for dinner "—a most important feature, where the clients come principally from hydros, and boarding houses.

On one occasion I remember staying at a hydro., at Grange-over-Sands, a couple of years ago, and one of my trips by motor was to Keswick and round Bassenthwaite, and I started at the proper time for holiday excursions, ten o'clock, and was comfortably back by seven : the house party, which proceeded by horses and steamer, started at seven, and was hack by ten—an .uncomfortable reversal of times. Motor charsa-bancs ought to make greater headway than they do.

I was talking to a large manufacturer,. a short while ago, and he told me that in one district a small company was formed to run several of his vehicles, and that a member of his firm joined the hoard to look after their interests. He spent some time in the district, to advise as to the best routes

to be taken, but one trip alongside a lake, a most charming ride, one of the best in Britain—I know it well, could not be included in their scheme because Mr. X, one of the directors, was also a director of the Steamboat Company, and the char-h-bancs would interfere with his precious boat receipts. Our friend tried everything, but the local influence was too powerful, and -the steamboats gained the day.

Mr. Archd. Campbell, of the Industrial Motor Company, Windsor, reports business as being brisk, and Mr. Halford, of Commercial Cars, tells me that the " Cornmer Car "output for August was quite satisfactory, and showed no decline on previous months.

During the pleasure-car shows at Olympia, in past years, so numerous have been the journeys to and fro with the various editions of our sister journal " The Motor " and our other publications, that arrangements have again been made for the hire of an " Armstrong-Whitworth " van this year.
