Entered by Sir Henry Spurrier, a 1908 Leyland X-type 3-tonner. had a total mileage of 379,873 when presented to Leyland.

With recently increased Ministerial interest in the small bus it was pertinent to note two examples of 11and 14-seaters. Their dates of manufacturewere 1909 and 1924 respectively. The contribution of modern commercial vehicle manufacturing methods to transport efficiency was shnwn in the contrast of unladen weight to payload ratios. A .30-cwt. lorry weighing 3 tons 13 cwt. unladen compared with unladen weights of around 31 tons for current 7-tonners.

To get together more than 50 vintage commercial vehicles under their own propulsion was a creditable achievement by both entrants and organizers. The resplendent turn-out of most of the entries told of much time and labour having been spent in their preparation. It was, therefore, particularlY uhfortunate that the announcements made over the relay system merely duplicated the information given in the programme. As neither gave any indication of the respective classes of entries most of the spectators (and even at least one prizewinner) remained ignorant as to what was really taking place.
