MINERS' FARESPROPOSAL

The police maintained that the vehicle was subject to a 30 m.p.h. limit, hut the defending solicitor submitted that as the vehicle was Crown property and did not need a carrier's licence, it was not restricted to any speed.

SWEDISH TRANSPORT SURVEY

NEARLY half the passenger transport in Sweden in 1951 was by road, states the Swedish Automobile Industry Association, which recently completed a survey. The railways carried 39 per cent, of the traffic and the tramways 8 per cent. Road haulage catered for about 17 per cent. of the goods transport, the railways 57 per cent. and ships 13 per cent.

There are 89,500 goods vehicles and 7,800 buses in Sweden.

COACH FIRM TRANSFERRED coach business of Messrs. TIylor Bros., North Shields. has been taken over by Messrs. Hall Bros,, South Shields. The proprietor of the acquired firm, Mr. T. H. Taylor, died earlier this year. Nine vehicles are involved in the transfer, but they will continue to be run under their present name.
