QPEAKING at the annual dinner of the Passenger Vehicle Operators' Association, in London, on Monday, Sir Alexander H. Maxwell, K.C.M.G.. chairman of the British Travel and Holidays Association, said that he looked forward to regular express services from London to Continental centres. There was no reason why people should not go to Victoria Coach Station to obtain through tickets for Paris, Brussels and other cities. Umperi,al Motorways and one or two other operators are already running such services, but not from London.]

The visit of London buses to America and Canada had, Sir Alexander added, done a tremendous amount of good for this country.

Mr. W. Seddon, chairman, referred to the outrageous level of taxation on road transport. Increased fares were not the answer to current problems, for no sooner was one claim granted than costs rose.

He thought the licensing system had worked well, it was administered efficiently and its unfettered control was worth preserving. Mr. Seddon also referred to the unfairness of the present restrictions on free-enterprise express services, compared with those operated by State-owned companies. He hoped that the Transport Bill would eliminate such injustice.
