ANSWEE.—The address you require is David Rowan and Co., 231, Elliot Street, Glasgow.

Makers of Petrol Tractors, [2033] " LLOYDS " writes :—" I should be glad if you would give me the names and addresses of firms who are making petrol tractors for haulage of furniture and similar trailers ANSWER.—Most firms who build petrol or paraffin tractors have specialized in that class of machine for agricultural purposes. Car as a Taxi.

Would you kindly give me your opinion as to which make of car would best suit my purpose I It need not be of the ordinary taxi type, a private landaulet I think would be best."

ANSWER.—You could not:do-better than purchase a private-hire cab, with la.ndaulet body, from one or other of the under-noted makers. You may have to pay a little more than the. figure mentioned. You should specify the lowest gear reduction to the back axle which is made, in order to suit hilly country and to let the engine get away with its load properly.

I am informed that it should be registered as a motorcycle, and further, if it be used solely for trade purposes, that there is no tax on it," ANSWER.—The vehicle about which you inquire will cost you £1 down to register, and that is all. You must not use it for private purposes at any time, or you may have to pay carriage tax, Police Licensing.

[2036] " UsEa " writes :—" I have just bought a five-seater motorcar, and I want to use it for public conveyance only—that is for taking parties out. I have been to the General Post Office for a licence, but I cannot get any satisfactory explanation. Can you tell me where to inquire and what is the cost?" ANSWER.—You do not require a police licence provided your work is all by private contract, and that you do not ply for hire in the streets, picking up passengers as they offer. If you care to send a few details as to the exact way in which the vehicle is being used, we will advise you whether you must take out a hackney carriage licence, which costs 15s. a year.

Cost of a 4 ton Lorry.

[2037] " PURCHASER" writes:—' I shall be very glad if you would give me your advice as to the running costs of a four-ton petrol lorry per mile run with full load. It is rather hilly around here. Which of the following makes do you think best :—(a) Leyland Motors, (b) Dennis Bros, (c) Commer Cars? " ANSWER.—The costs for a four-ton petrol lorry, on the basis of 300 miles of running per week, should be in accordance with the following figures :— The makers mentioned will all give good service.

Wants Haulage Contractors.

[2038] " HARROW " writes :—" Will you kindly give us the addresses of one or two firms who undertake motor haulage ? We have a customer who wants to contract for several months to have goods brought. from London market three times a week.
