founded in 1905, the first issue being published on March 15th of that year.
It was the pioneer journal to deal with the question of mechanical road transport, it has always led in Influence and circulation, its net sales to-day being more than double that of any similar journal.
On the technical side, it has initiated and encouraged many advanced ideas, as, for example, the six-wheel rigid frame vehicle, a low centre of gravity for passenger and goods vehicles, the development and use of pneumatic tyres, the employment of better springing, the insulation of the body from chassis shocks, the redaction of unsprung weight and the use of better braking systems, etc.
On the operation side, its tables of operating costs and charges for haulage and carrying are regarded as accurate and authoritative having served materially to stabilise rates throughout a period when a grave risk existed of uninformed and possibly disastrous price cutting.
During the course of a year it replies to thousands of letters and telephone messages from readers asking for information and advice which are given willingly and Iree of any charge or obligation.
"The Commercial Motor" should be read regularly.
