Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Built Especially for Passenger Work, the Gilford has a Frame Level of 1 ft. 11 ins.

MI VER SINCE they produced the

A l' successful Gifford chassis for ri.0cwt. loads, the makers, A. B. Horne and Co., of Holloway Road, N.7, have had in mind the introduction of a lowframed chassis eminently suitable for passenger work. They have now placed this on the market, and reference to our illustrations will show what a neat, clean-looking job this is.

The standard type has a wheelbase of 15 ft., but other wheelbases up to 19 ft. will be made if required. The chassis is built to comply with the latest regulations, and is, in the main, a development of the previous model. The frame is downswept close to the flywheel housing, and upswept over the inverted-pot type axle. Material in. thick is used for the side members, which have a depth of 81 ins.

Engine and four-speed gearbox form a milt from which the drive is taken through a three-piece propeller shaft having four Spicer joints to the underneath worm. The front axle is a Clayton, and front-iFiheel brakes can be fitted if required.

A final-drive gear ratio of 6 to 1 is employed, and this in conjunction with a 4 in. bore and 5/ in. stroke engine developing 44 b.h.p. at 1,600 r.p.m„ enables high speeds to be obtained.

The chassis is built for a load

capacity of 2 tons, and the standard model has an overall length of 23 ft. 9i ins., whilst the frame height from the ground is 1 ft. 11 ins.

Much attention has been given to the promotion of riding comfort, and the springs are long and wide, whilst a light pressure is all that is required to disengage the multiple dry disc clutch, and ease of steering is afforded by a gear of the cam and lever type giving a quick lock but large leverage at small angles.

Water circulation is by pump, and to permit adequate cooling in hot climates the water capacity of the system has been increased to five gallons.

Ignition is effected by a Bosch magneto, with timing controlled from the steering column, and carburation by a Zenith instrument.
