Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

MHERE are two exhibits on the Tasker stand, these consisting, first, of the Little Giant steam wagon, with a load capacity of 5-6 tons and equipped with a three-way hydraulically operated tipping wagon. This wagon is provided with three speeds and is spring mounted.

The second exhibit, being entirely new, is perhaps the more interesting, particularly as it represents a striking development in the policy of its makers, being a petrol chassis designed to carry 30-35 cwt. of goods or bodies accommodating 16 passengers.

The engine is a Dorman M.R.4, developing 20 bh.p. at 1,000 r.p.m. Unitconstructed with this is the Dnx gearbox, having four forward speeds and right-hand change, whilst a one-piece D26 propeller shaft, with Hardy fabric joints, takes the drive to a Kirkstall pottype axle with overhead worm drive. The clutch is of the pressed-steel cone type faced with Ferodo, and another engine detail is that the water cireulation is effected by a pump of the impeller type.

The front axle is also 'a Kirkstall and is of the reversed Elliott type. Braking is on the duplex system, both hand and foot brakes acting in the rear-wheel drums and uncompensated, so that if one rod breaks both sets of shoos are not thrown out of action. The radiator is a Spiral Tube component.

A worm and full wheel are employed in the steering gear ; a feature of this gear is the large orifice for inserting lubricant. A neat point in the design

of the hall joints is that pressed-steel sleeves, sliding witheach ball pin, prevent the entry of dirt and water.

• We have not yet made reference to the frame ; this is of Tardier make and is strongly constructed of rolled-steel ellen • nels, with a stout channel cross-member at the front and cross-stays at the rear.

Springing has -received careful attention, and those at the rear are 4 ft. long. A somewhat unusual arrangement is adopted for the rectangular petrol tank, as this is carried at the near side of the dash, thus avoiding interference with the steering column. It is provided with a combined tap and filter, as well as a glass. level gauge constantly under the 'eye *of the driver. W. Tasker and -Sons, Ltd., Andover. Hants.
