Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ANEW model is always of interest to visitors, therefore it will be as 'well to deal with the 2-ton model in the first instance. The engine is similar to that employed on the 25-cwt. model, being of the four-cylinder monobloe type, having belt-driven dynamo, sideby-side valves, a detachable head and an engine-gearbox unit, including a dryplate clutch carried on the first motion shaft of the gearbox. Central control is employed. The model exhibited has solid tyres, but pneumatics are obtainable if desired.

Borne by a 25-cwt, chassis is a special delivery van to the order of Selfridge and Co., Ltd. The vehicle is mounted on single pneumatic tyres fitted to steelspoked wheels. The formation of the upper part of the body is noticeable and is a feature of the. inachines employed by the owners. Paintwork is in two shades of green and is lined. There are two doors to the driver's cab and the rear doers of the body are secured by Yale locks. Hotchkiss drive is used on this machine.

The 20-25-cwt. Star chassis is in no Sense a converted private ear ; it is a fully designed commercial model. Over and above the weight of the ordinary body it will carry a load of 25 cwt. with ease and 'without in any sense working to its maximum capacity all the time. The top-gear ratio is 6 to 1, thus giving a climbing ability which is favourable for top-gear work and at the same time affords a speed of 25-30 m.p.h. . If desired.

Unit engine and gearbox conatructien is adoptell, thus reducing the number of wearing parts requiring attention and ensuring accurate alignment. This method of design is a potent factor in the ease of gear changing, the weight of the rotating parts being as low as possible.

Together with the use of fabricuniversal, joints between the gearbox and the rear axle, lubrication worries, so far as the transmission is concerned, are done away with, and there are no clutch universal joints. The propeller shaft is

supperted between thegearbox and axle independently -of the fabric joints.

Also-cite 25-ewt. chassis is shown a station bus body. In addition to accommodating the passengers on eight lateral seats in the body there is ample space for luggage ; the roof, a large space beside the driver and the off-side running board being available for trunks and other impedimenta. A ladder is fixed to the rear of the body for gaining access to the roof and the entrance is also at the back. The large lights are fixed, but the upper ones arc Movable for ventilation purposes, as is one of the small windows opening forwards. A feature of this chassis is the high power-toweight ratio. •

The largest model exhibited is the 5060-cwt. vehicle equipped with solid tyres and bearing a van body for jam trans port. As distinct from the 25-cwt. machine, this has radius rods and a torque member coupled up to the overhead-worm rear axle. The axle is of the full floating type.

Newspaper delivery service is a strenuous task, but the 15-cwt. model shown which will carry copies of The Evening News can be expected to withstand the stresses involved. The engine is of 20.1 b.p., being of dm same dimensions as that fitted to the 25-cwt. vehicle. Pneumatic tyres are, of course, used, and the wheels are of the spoked

variety.
