Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AN undertype six-tonner knOten as the Express is the sole representative of the Mann range. Coachwork consists of a fixed lorry body and, of course, a driver's cab. There are various features in the design which attract attention, accessibility having been 'studied to a marked extent. So that the average speed may be kept high without in excessive maximem downhill in an attempt to make up time lost in upward gradients, it is fitted with two speeds and the engine also has two sets of valve cams giving two points of cut-off, thus affording the equivalent, in Practice, of four speeds. It is a geared wagon which is built to be fast on top gear and yet has a greater pulling power on low gear than in the case of a single, speed wagon.

Mounted across the frame is the under-type engine, which drives through a gearbox and a propeller shaft to the live rear axle,-Which is of the full-floating type and has a double gear reduction. The torque rod is suspended from the frame at its forward end. • In addition to steam-operated brakes on the rear wheelie there is a massive transmission brake just behind the gearbox, this being of the external-contracting type with easy adjustment by a large wing nut. Chassis lubrication is by grease gun, and there is an oil-level gauge glass on the off side of the gearbox.

Built-up construction is employed for the front axle, steering being of the Ackerman type with ball thrusts, and the spokes of the front wheels are dished to give easy steering at full loads.

The.vertieal boiler is of the stayless type with , inclined water tubes. The iuner flue or firebox is completely removable and avoids the weakening effect caused by having the central portion flattened to a square section to form the tube plates. In place of this it is pressed to form deep longitudinal ribs which carry the tube plates in the same way ae the chains of a suspension bridge, this being the strongest form in which the metal can be applied.

The whole construction is well thought out and practicable.
