Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ARECENT addition to the Garrett programme is the trolley-bus chassis. This is fitted with a 10-speed forward and reverse gear, and the speed control is by a pedal, which operates in a similar manner to the conventional petrol-vehicle accelerator. The motor is a 50 h.p. Bull, manufactured by the associated concern of the vehicle makers. Westinghouse operation is employed for the rear-wheel brakes. On the vehicle shown a four-wheel braking system is installed. The coachwork of this exhibit is a 36-seater single-decker bus, which provides adequate comfort for its occupants, and ventilation has been well attended to.

On the 2-ton battery-driven vehicle the Tudor batteries are carried under the bonnet and longitudinally on each side of the chassis. Centrally mounted is the Bull motor. The control gear is fixed close to the driver and steering from the pavement is provided, a special Garrett feature. Power is transmitted by an open propeller shaft to the overhead worm-driven rear axle. Both brakes are fitted in the rear-wheel drums, and there is an external-contracting brake just behind the motor. Single solid tyres are provided all round, and the springs are of the semiellintic type.

Thismodel is shown as a bare chassis. A variety of useful coachwork can be carried, and a large number of this type is employed for municipal purposes, such as refuse collection.

Having drop sides and a hinged tailboard is the trailer with a steel chassis, running on disc wheels fitted with solid tyres. Internal-expanding brakes are used in the rear wheels and semi

elliptic springs are provided all round. Tubular axles are employed, and the Spring draw-bar pulls directly on the chassig frame instead of the turntable. The well-known Garrett undertype steam wagon is also on view, fitted with a hinged-side lorry body finished in a dark shade of red. The driver's cab has a V windscreen, and the steering wheel is situated to the right of the vertical boiler.

Steering is on the Ackerman principle, by worm and wheel. The drive is by double chain to both the rear wheels, which contain two sets of brakes. Electric lighting is shown on this model, and there is a handy interior light in the driver's cab. The dynamo is neatly housed on the near side of the crankcase.

Chassis lubrication is by grease gun, and a combined speedometer and odometer is fitted in the driver's cab, the drive being by flexible shaft from a gearwheel located on the axle carrying the small sprocket of the driving chain. The top run of each chain is protectel by a guard; the great depth of the chassis-frame members should be noted. The smart appearance of the exhibition machine is enhanced by the fitting of sheet-iron discs to the sp5kecl wheel&
