Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

By Will Shiers KMS MALLINSON Transport will be the first UK operator to run Euro-6 versions of the new Mercedes-Benz Actros. The Barnsley-based operator placed an order for two units at the CV Show, along with eight Euro-5s.

“We are a forward-thinking company,” said MD Stephen Mallinson, who is looking forward to comparing the fuel economy of the two trucks. “Euro-6 is on its way, and this will be a good chance for us to get some experience of running them. You hear a lot about Euro-6, and we’ll be able to experience it first-hand.” The 10 newcomers, all 2545s with BigSpace cabs, will be supplied by preferred dealer Northside Truck & Van. They will be additions to the 75-strong fleet.

Tewkesbury-based Arthur Spriggs & Sons also announced an order for 10 new Actros, all Euro-5s. “I have a lot of respect for Mercedes,” said director of operations Chris Spriggs, “as you can’t fault the reliability, back-up or residuals [of the vehicles].” Meanwhile, M&M Greene will be the first operator in Wales to take delivery of a new-shape Euro-5 Actros, having placed an order for a top-spec 2551 GigaSpace.

Mike Greene, who runs the four-truck-strong Crosshands-based operation with brother Mark, said: “The truck looks fantastic. [Mercedes] took us to Germany last autumn, so I know it drives well.” Although Greene cites good reliability and strong residual values as key reasons for running Actros units, he said that another factor was his relationship with Euro Commercials. “Nathan Black [general sales manager of the Cardiff branch] looks after us,” he said.

When it goes on the road next month, the new truck will be finished in the company’s distinctive green and red livery, and adorned with lights.

“They spend millions producing an aerodynamic truck, and I go and ruin it all with light bars,” said Greene.
