Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Ian Wainwright, road freight programme manager, Transport for London

Q: Given that every day of the Olympics will be different, how can operators keep abreast of the most up-to-date traffic news during the Games period? “With just a few months to go until the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Transport for London (TfL) is leading a final drive to help the freight industry prepare for the opportunities and challenges that the Games will bring.

Road hotspot maps for each day of the Games are available at www.tfl.gov. uk/2012freight, and operators are advised to check with their route planning software suppliers to ensure they have all the latest information.

More details on the road impacts of the Games, including a Freight Journey Planner, will be released before the Olympics begin.

Freight operators can now also find out in real-time where traffic is busy or may become congested, before they hit the roads, thanks to TfL’s new range of enhanced travel information tools.

By visiting www.tfl.gov.uk/trafficnews, hauliers can gain a bird’s eye view of London’s traffic hotspots to see where traffic is building up and which areas to avoid through access to a network of 170 ‘jam cams’. A live Twitter feed, @TfLTrafficNews, also carries up-to-date information, and specific roads and routes are searchable using hashtags (#).

These tools were developed as part of TfL’s commitment to smoothing out traffic flow and reducing disruption for road users in London, but should prove particularly valuable for those companies that have to continue to make deliveries during the Olympics when some routes will be busier than usual.” • Got an Olympic-related question?
