The UK-wide survey found that drivers with C+E licences are in particularly short supply. Driver recruitment and retention along with information technology skills development were all identified as key issues for owners of haulage firms.

Only 17% of road haulage firms were found to have a written training policy—and only 9% allocate a formal budget for training. But nearly 75% of respondents believe that the supply of HGV drivers needs to be increased in the next three years.
