to tender. A further six per cent of total traffic is to be put out to tender in the current year, he said.

El The amount of commercial network mileage in West Yorkshire has risen to 75 per cent of the current mileage, Transport Minister David Mitchell told MPs last week.

Mitchell said that it has previously been reckoned that only 55 per cent of the routes were commercially viable.

Mitchell told MPs that the increase is a "major justification" of the Government's claims of the benefits of deregulation.

By the end of February, at the end of the first stage of deregulation, 615 local services in West Yorkshire were registered.
