A CHEQUE for 000 has been subscribed to the memorial fund to the late Johnny Johnson, who distinguished Commercial Motor for some years. That is the measure of the popularity of the quiet, friendly, smiling man whose untimely death was such a shock to his colleagues and others.
The fund was set up by the XCM Club, which consists of former members of the staff under the chairmanship of David Lowe. Subscribers include members of the club, present staff, other journalists, manufacturers, operators and public relations consultants. They hope the fund will bring emotional as well as practical comfort to Johnny's family.
