nES1IGNS representative of contem porary practice in ambulance construction have figured in this week's exhibition at the Royal Society of Health" Conference in Eastbourne.

Vauxhall exhibits a Bedford-Lomas Junior dual-purpose model based on the Bedford 15-cwt. chassis with 102-in. wheelbase; the particular design is offered with a choice of five interior layouts.

A Homalloy ambulance using the Morris FG chassis is being shown by Cravens-Homalloy Ltd., light alloy being used for the body framing and most of the exterior panelling. The interior is lined with plastics mouldings radiused at the floor and corners to simplify cleaning. Space is provided on the nearside for the employment of any stretcher-carrying apparatus specified by the customer. On the opposite side a bench seat accommodates four sitting patients. A heater is fitted which discharges through a grille at floor level.

A Karrier-Dennis ambulance is shown on a 30-cwt. Walk-Thru chassis, the body being attached to the frame by Metalastik mountings in order to minimize vibration. Composite construction is used, with exterior panelling of aluminium.

The ,Eastbourne Health Conference closes today.

Now Standard on Dysons

I MPROVEMENTS now incorporated as standard in the Dyson range of Ultralight Four-wheels-in-line semi-trailers are aimed at improved braking and stability, coupled with reduced weight and maintenance.

The chassis main members, which are 15 in. deep, have a specially reinforced neck and the fabr:cated spring brackets have an L-shaped base so that they can be attached to the cross-members as well as the main longitudinals. Sub-frames are eliminated and this, with other minor detail improvements, reduces the tare weight by 2 cwt. An important new feature is cam-operated brakes, which, with a suitably matched tractive unit, allow a retardation of 0 65 g to 0-7 g to be obtained. Brake sizes are 15.5 in. by 4-25 in. and there are separate air-brake diaphragm chambers for each of the four wheels. Total lining area is 528 sq. in.

More Power for Fourgon FROM this week all Renault Fourgon 6-cwt. vans sold in the U.K. will have 845 c.c. engines, all-synchromesh threespeed gearboxes and a number of detail improvements. The engine has a compression ratio of 8 to I and develops 32 b.h.p. at 4,700 r.p.m., compared with 26.5 b.h.p. from the previous 747 c.c. unit. Maximum torque is 49.2 lb. ft. at 2,300 r.p.m.

The basic price of £425, including heating and ventilation equipment, is unchanged.
