Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

'THE East Lancashire bodies for 20 J. Leyland Atlanteans ordered by Sheffield Corporation are to be built in Sheffield itself, at the new Penistone Road factory of Neepsend Coachworks Ltd.; Neepsend is an associate company of East Lancashire Coachbuilders Ltd.

The East Lancashire tender.' was for 20 double-deck bodies at £3,705 each, the Leyland tender being for 20 chassis at £3,350 each, less an allowance of £156 for tyres.

Simultaneously with the Atlantean order, Sheffield has ordered 30 Fleetline chassis from Transport Vehicles (Daimler) Ltd. at £3,220 each, with 30 Park Royal bodies for these at £3,705 each.

The 30/20 ratio of Fleetline to Atlantean is interesting in that Sheffieldhas only recently reintroduced Daimlers into the fleet, three Fleetlines having been ordered last year, when 10 Atlanteans were on order and 43 were in service.

Also, Sheffield is not normally a purchaser of East Lancashire bodies, and the prospect of these being built-locally is understood to have been a factor in

acceptance of the tender. H.B.C.
