Eastbourne Surplus

A LTHOUGH Eastbourne municipal

transport department earned about £2,000 more in 1962-3 than in the previous year the net surplus for transfer to general reserve was down from £4,530 to £3,787. Contribution to renewal account was £21,800, the total net surplus being £25,587.

There was a slight drop in mileage covered compared with 1961-2 and passenger carryings fell from just over 16 m. to slightly under 1511 m. During the year the undertaking spent nearly £42,000 on bus purchases.

P.T.A. Conference SHOULD a rail strike take place on May 14, 15 and 16, the Public Transport Association has stated that its Folkestone Conference (planned for the same three days) will take place as arranged.

Diesel Buses for Cape Town A FTER extensive prototype trials, Cape Electric Tramways (1949) Ltd. has decided to convert Cape Town's trolleybils routes to diesel-engined buses, assembled in Port Elizabeth. The conversion will be completed next year.

New Yugoslav Buses

"TIFIE F.A.P. concern, of Priboj, Yugo' slavia, has started production of three new bus models, each of which will be produced in two variations—one suitable for urban. services and the other for tourist traffic. The models will be known as Ohrid, Dubrava 5 and Dubrava 6. The 1-30 h.p. engine gives the Dubrava 6 a speed of about 65 m.p.h. Bodies are being manufactured by Autokarserija, of Zagreb.

. F.A.P. considers that there are good prospects of exporting these buses to ether European countries.
