Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Keywords : Kuehne + Nagel

Kuehne + Nagel (K+N) buys RH Freight (see p6): we didn’t see that one coming! While Norbert Dentressangle’s takeover of TDG was one of the industry’s worst-kept secrets, K+N’s purchase of RH was not only a bolt from the blue for us, but it would appear also something of a welcome shock for RH itself. Upon sober reflection, it makes eminent sense for all involved: it helps K+N achieve its aims of expanding its European road network, and gives RH future security –

and in the current climate, security is a precious commodity.

Another precious commodity is fuel: £1.10/litre for bulk diesel as we went to press, with crude hovering around $112 a barrel after its shock high last week.

The FairFuel campaign has gained significant traction, and, by the time you read this, the petition that demands the abandonment of the duty rise planned for April will have been handed to the government (see p7). FairFuelUK, with the aid of all the stakeholders backing it (including us), will continue to keep the pressure on. Go to fairfueluk.com and put the pressure on your MP.

● Meanwhile, eagle-eyed readers may spot the new logo on the left: this heralds the fact that the Road Transport Group portfolio – CM, Motor Transport, Truck & Driver and Roadtransport.com and all associated products and services – has become independent. We live and breathe road transport and can now focus with greater intensity on giving you what you need. Like K+N and RH, we’ve got a fascinating journey ahead of us – and one we know will benefit you.
