MI The Department of Transport has cut next year's budget for new road projects by more than a third following the announcement of roads cutbacks in last November's Budget.
The DOT had promised to spend 21,712m: that has been cut to 2,1,110m with a reserve of seven schemes which would cost another 2254m, Promised road starts for 1994 which will not go ahead next year include: • Widening: M3 J3-4; M23 J8-9; M5 J17 and J20-21, Widening M25 J16-19 has been put on reserve).
• Dualling: A40 WitneyCassington; A41 Aston Clinton bypass; A6 Clapham bypass; A435 Studley bypass; A568 Widnes Eastern; A43 Silverstone bypass; A6 Great Glen bypass; A59 Airedale.
