THIS WEEKEND'S British Transport Advisory Committee (BTAC) annual vehicle evaluation and fuel trials will feature the debut of a new 60-tonne outfit.

As featured exclusively in CM this week (see page 50) Denby Transport's B-double outfit uses a unique command steering system on the short A-trailer. The 60-tonne rig, pulling two trailers, will be tested for turning

circles and trailer cut-in as well as for fuel economy. Other trials taking place at the MIRA test track at Nuneaton will include an examination of "fuel efficient" oils for CV drivelines.

'Mere will also be comparisons between trucks equipped with an automated transmission, running with high and low-power engines to determine optimum fuel efficiency for a given payload.

Meanwhile, new designs and innovations on vehicle streamlining will be displayed.

The trials will compare standard, "fuel-efficient" and lowprofile tyres, while Parcelforce will compare fuel costs between conventional trailers and doubledeckers. For further information on participating in or attending the trials contact John Eastman on 07711 859545.
