Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I KEEP hearing all this talk about how we are going to be swamped by a wave of East European drivers rushing to this country in search of the good life. Well, let me tell you now, it's not going to happen. While clearly there will be some economic migrants who wish to swap Warsaw for Walsall or Bra tislava for Blackburn, I just can't see them sweeping into the country in their thousands. The distances are far too great and there have to be jobs closer to home, particularly with the expansion of multinational manufacturers into the new European countries. They will look for industry-leading logistics providers to run their

distribution services rather than a Polish operator whose trucks are held together with rust and string and who has no experience ofJIT or any of the other supply chain systems we consider the norm. You also have to ask what the problem would be if they did pitch up here? We are, according to conservative estimates, some 80,000 drivers short at the moment so a few thousand Poles, Czechs and Slovaks are hardly going to be "coming over here taking our jobs", to use a well-worn phrase. Providing they are well trained and can drive as well as the next man then good luck to them. Stephen Beech Badgers Mound, Kent
