Milk Marque is to halve the number of its milk haulage distributors from this November following a national strategy review: rationalising the haulage contracts is expected to save the milk marketing cooperative £2m a year.

Seven hauliers working for Milk Marque have been told that when their contracts end on 31 October they will not be renewed. The hauliers affected are; Ryder. Wincanton, Merlin Distri bution, ACC, Express Distribution. Bulkfood Transport and G Easton & Son.

The seven hauliers who will continue to work for Milk Marque are: Initial Transport Services, Tankfreight, Lloyd Fraser (Dairy Services), Gregory Distribution, East Anglian Hauliers, Davidsons of Coundon from County Durham and J Sharp & Son of Cumbria.

A number of ex-farm collection depots will also close, says Milk Marque director of distribution Pat Williams. "Where appropriate, re-location to adjacent sites will be offered," Williams adds. Detailed plans for the future of individual depots are still under discussion.
