to become VAT says the Federation of Wholesale and Industrial Distributors and it describes the present system as "punitive."
In a statement the FWID says that "it is iniquitable to tax the commercial user who contributes directly to the national economy, maintains employment and helps the export drive at the same high rate as the private motorist."
If the VAT idea is adopted, the federation says that a greater part of the tax would become VAT and allow the commercial user some form of tax relief.
