AFORD 750 74--tonner is the first American vehicle to be fitted with the Perkins V8:510 engine. The vehicle has a
20 ft.-long, all van body. A joint effort was mounted for this, between staff from the Wixom, Michigan, headquarters of Perkins Engines Inc. and from the UK headquarters at Peterborough. The vehicle was introduced at the recent national convention of the local and Short Haul Carriers in Washington.
United Parcel Service, one of the largest carriers of general commodities, has been fitting the Perkins 6.354 as a petrol unit replacement, and has ordered 20 new Ford C600 vans fitted with the same engine.
