[ found the vehicle to be extremely atonable and the gear ratios well suited the engine, which was tight from being tight off the line and in need of some ustment to the fuel system. Its perform:e did, however, promise good things to ne, and steering, braking and gear ming were a pleasure indeed. Coupled h excellent visibility and an extremely noise level these characteristics should ke the machine popular with crews. 3earing the model number T 1800 DS 300, tractive unit is the first of a number of different types that the company expects to sell in Britain. I was very pleased to hear from DAF officials during my visit to the works that there is to be considerable attention paid to the supply of spare parts, and that no British firm would be appointed a distributor unless it was prepared to hold sufficient stocks of parts and provide adequate after-sales service. Also to be inaugurated is a training scheme under which distributors' and users' repair staffs will receive training on DAF vehicles.

Ackworth Engineering Co.. Ltd. is an associate company of Ackworth Transport Ltd. and an official of that company told me this week that most of the initially imported vehicles would probably be taken into the firm's own fleet because of the difficulty it was finding in securing vehicles from British makers.

Several load-carriers are to be sold in the UK and these are derivatives of the T 1800. They will have wheelbase dimensions of 12, 14, 16, and 18 ft. and will cost £3,800, £3,810, £3,820 and £3,870 respectively. The tractive unit will cost £3,750 complete with turbocharger, three-line air braking and power steering, but less fifth wheel. The shortwheelbase models are suitable for any type of tipping gear and a gearbox mounted p.t.o. for use with tipping gear costs £1710s.

Vehicles are expected to arrive for shipment to Chipping Sodbury Motors shortly and it is expected that some models will be exhibited at Earls Court in September.
