• GARDINER have been appointed by London Transport as district superintendents, central buses. Mn. W. HILTON becomes purchasing officer in succession to Mn. R. B. Hoer, who was recently transferred to the Road Transport Executive.

MR. W. WOODCOCK, M.I.R.T.E,. A.M.INgr.T., has been appointed divisional transport officer to the East Midlands Gas Board (Sheffield and Rotherham Division). At one time Mr. Woodcock was with United Automobile Services, Ltd., in the Teeside and Northumberland districts.

Mn. J. D. HOLLETh secretary of Leyland Motors (S.A.), Ltd., and Mn. A. A. RACTENBACH, stores manager, returned this week to South Africa after a seven-week visit to the headquarters factory.

MR. W. COWLAYSEIAW has been elected honorary secretary of the Road Haulage Association's Keighley subarea, in succession to the late Mr. George Bonnet. He was, at one time, chairman of this sub-area.

M, BRIGHT, who since the Road Transport Executive acquired his haulage concern, has become secretary of the Yorkshire Area of Aims of Industry, Ltd., recently received a presentation from the committee of the Road Haulage Association's Yorkshire West Riding Area. Mr. Bright was a vice-chairman of the area and of the R.H.A.

Mn. H. C. CRANE has been elected chairman of the London and Home Counties Area of the Traders' Road Transport Association, with MR. CHRIS. SMITH, MINST.T., and Mn. J. JANES as vice-chairmen. MR. W. A. WINSON, 141.INs-r.T., has been elected honorary treasurer. Tributes to the work of Mr. Smith, the previous area chairman, were paid by Cot. A. JERRETT,

president of the Association, and others, at the area's recent annual general meeting.

Mn. H. Rossitsictots, M.I.R.T.E., has been appointed district manager, S.E. District of the South Eastern Division Road Transport Executive. An engineering apprentice with Ruston and Hornsby, Ltd., of Lincoln, his apprenticeship was interrupted by service in the R.F.C. Later he was manager of South Lines Engineering Co., reconstructing war-used vehicles. From 1929 to 1938 he was with Leyland Motors, Ltd., and from 1940 to 1942 in an R.A.S.C. heavy repair shop. Since then he has acquired interests in engineering and haulage businesses, including A. H. Barker (Burdett Road), Ltd., Messrs. Newmans Motor Services, and Brixton Haulage Ltd., which were taken over voluntarily by the B.T.C. last Monday.
