TRAILER MAKER Don-Bur has dismissed suggestions that its aerodynamic Teardrop trailer does not meet the swing radius requirements of the Construction and Use Regulations.
Speaking at the Freight Transport Association's carbon dioxide reduction conference last week, Ray Collingion, John Lewis Partnership engineering manager, said he could not use the Teardrop trailers because they didn't comply with the rules.
"With a 1,600mm kingpin position, the Teardrop doesn't meet the requirement at the top of trailer," he argued.
Rival retailer Marks & Spencer operates 141 of the lightweight Teardrop trailers.
A Don-Bur spokesman says that while the first version of the trailer had a high-level overhang that "strictly speaking" did exceed the permitted 2,040mm swing radius, this was purely to improve aerodynamics. 2,040mm swing radius • For more details, see next week's CM
