Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A CONSTRUCTION company was fined £120,000 with £51,000 costs last week after a truck driver fell to his death in its yard while loading his trailer.

Saint-Gobain Building Distribution was handed the fine by Lincoln Crown Court after a jury found it guilty of two health and safety charges in May.

The case arose after Nigel Sergeant fell 15 feet to the ground while trying to reduce the height of his trailer of steel poles. The accident happened at the Calders & Grandidge depot in Boston, Lincolnshire, Calders & Grandidge is owned by Saint-Gobain.

A company spokeswoman said last week that risk assessment processes had been in place at the time of the accident in August 2005, but that the company had re-assessed these since in conjunction with the Health & Safety Executive. She added that the firm was considering introducing harnesses for all drivers working on their trailers, although this is not a legal requirement.

Calders & Grandidge also issued a statement expressing its sympathy to Sergeant's family and friends. It added: "We will continue to put every effort into ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees and everyone who comes into contact with our operations."
