THE GOVERNMENT was last week asked to discuss with the Greater London Council the question of forbidding very large vehicles from crossing the centre of London.

Lord Boyd-Carpenter, who raised the point, said that this was done, for instance, in Paris and Rome.

The Earl of Avon told him that GLC proposals to ban lorries in London were at present under consideration. A number of interesting and radical solutions had been proposed for achieving a relaxation of the congestion in the capital, and he was sure the GLC would bear in mind what Lord Boyd-Carpenter had said.
