tE BEXHILL Bus Company is holding its own and is set to expand, ter two years of teething problems, reports TIM COBB.
The company was formed in )80 when Maidstone and strict rationalised its services id five bus drivers accepted iluntary redundancy and set their own firm {CM March 17, 180).
Now with three of'those drivs still remaining, and under e new management of Michael irmer, the owner of Renown )eches of Bexhill, the company
is invested in three secondind Leyland Panthers from istbourne Borough Council to iplace its maintenancembled ex-Plymouth Leyland ltionals. These are being bran up, but one is being kept as a serve vehicle.
The Panthers now have their vn livery of blue and cream, id have been personalised to narten the company's image. The Bexhill company was arted with the aid of a £25,000 an from the Rather District )uncil, but ran into difficulties (in to repay this sum.
Mr Harmer was called in to Ise the situation, and negoited a deal with the council, hereby the loan will be written f at the end of 1983, if the corniny maintains its level of sere.
Not content with maintaining service, it is about to start a iw one. "We have managed to ytain a licence to operate in iarby Pebsham," Mr Harmer :plained. "After that, we hope be able to expand even ore."
But, until the loan has been ritten off, there will be no new hides. "Although there is no ofit, this service keeps five drivers employed. They are getting more money now than when they first started, and their hours have been reduced," Mr Harmer pointed out.
The company moved to larger premises in March this year, and shares these with Renown Coaches.
"I have every confidence in the company," Mr Harmer said.
