• Use of the PLA standard shipping note became obligatory on July 1, since when an additional charge of £1 per shipping note will be raised from shippers and exporters who do not present correct documents• with their export consignments. The PLA and London shipowners report that since April 1, when the new note was introduced, there have been substantial improvements, in export documentation, over 90 per cent of overseas consignments having been accompanied by the standard shipping note.
